On Wednesday, April 30th the citizen of Vancouver came out into public space to show their support and solidarity with the Quebec student movement in Montreal.
It was one of several “casserole” rallies held across the country to protest a new Quebec law that cracks down on public dissent. They’re modelled on similar protests in South America.
In Vancouver, the demonstration shut down traffic along several major streets, including West Georgia, Robson, and Granville.
The video below was made by local filmmaker Ian Mackenzie and inspired by Jeremie Battaglia’s viral video of the Montreal Casserole protests. It beautifully depicts a pots and pans revolt West Coast style - making music together, in the rain, full of joy.
